Vacation Bible School (Report 2)

Vacation Bible School (VBS) went very well this year. We held VBS in three locations: the villages of Automoniva and Shila, as well as the city. We had a good group at each of the locations; although in Shila, many of our regulars were away at a summer camp, so our numbers in Shila were considerably lower than I anticipated.

I was really excited about the participation of the church members with the  VBS outreach in the villages. It was really exciting to see them putting on puppet shows for the kids, making the snacks, and helping with registration. In general, trying to be a blessing to the young people. This is important, as we want this to be a ministry of the church, and not just something that the missionaries put on each year.  

We tried something we have never tried before in the city; we took the  inflatable bounce house to some of the nearby playgrounds and set it up. As the local children played, we were able to talk to their moms and grandmothers about VBS. Through this, we were able to pass out many invitations, and  meet some of the people living near the church.

VBS month is a lot of work, and we are all quite tired; but through it all, the Gospel was preached.  Please pray for the Word of God that was preached, that it  will continue to work in the lives of the young people who attended VBS.

V.B.S. Preparations

Tomorrow we will kick off our first day of Vacation Bible School. We are planning to hold four different V.B.S. campaigns in four different locations. Tomorrow starts the first of these campaigns in the city. Please pray that these will go well. We have been very busy with all the preparations that go into such a program. To fit in with our medieval theme, we were able to transform the church auditorium into a castle. We also made the props so that they can be folded up and taken out to the villages for the village programs. We have a variety  of games planned for the children ending with a medieval carnival. That said, in addition to building the castle props, we needed to also build a variety of games. It has been a lot of work, but it will be well worth it to have people sit under the teaching of the Gospel. Please pray for us throughout the weeks to come. Update to Our Most Recent Prayer Letter

God has richly blessed our ministry, and I would like to share with you what God has done. While we were in a mission conference last week, I showed our video and in the video I explained the new legal situation, which requires religious meetings to be held on commercial property. You may recall from our recent letter that we have found such a building, but we needed to raise $25,000 to purchase it. God began to move in this meeting in a marvelous way. In one night, they raised $22,000 for this building. Praise the Lord! That, with what we already have raised, more than meets the need to buy the building. We are praising the Lord for this answer to prayer.  God has also blessed us with some additional funds for the vehicle project. We now have $6,900 of the needed $10,000. Glory to His name. God truly is able.

Documents, Documents and more Documents

A big part of serving in a foreign country is staying on top of documents. Documents are not the most exciting part of the ministry, but an important part. This has certainly been true lately, as we have had a lot of document work that needed completed. One of the more important documents was Lilianna’s residency that needed to be renewed. The extension process takes a minimum of two months to be approved. Once approved, we flew down to Krasnoyarsk to pick up the residency document. In addition to Lilianna’s residency extension, Cassie’s and Lilianna’s passports were soon to expire. For us, that means a trip to the embassy in Moscow. Since we already had to fly to Krasnoyarsk, it made sense to combine the two trips. We turned in everything that was needed for the new passports in Moscow and returned to Krasnoyarsk to pick up Lilianna’s residency extension.
